Transcript: I was one of those who formed MK, and my instructions from the NEC of the ANC was to attend the Pafmecsa Conference in Addis Ababa in February 1962; to visit the independent African States, and to ask them to give military training to our people, and to raise funds for the struggle.
I had lived underground for almost 10 mnths, and it was exciting indeed to look forward to free and unfettered movement in daytime, without fear of arrest.
I looked forward to visiting new countries and meeting famous freedom fighters, who were dominating the liberation movement in various parts of the continent.
Above all, I looked forward to meeting Comrade Tambo and his capable team which was mobilising international support for our struggle. They had done impressive spade work and helped to put our struggle on the map. Emergence of MK had boosted their efforts. but socio-economic problems were frightening.
