Title: Long Walk Original Manuscript (Image #488)
Transcript: In contrast PAC concerned solely with Africans and we thought the picture should be changed and we were unanimous in this.
The 8 breakaway: my attention drawn that 8 expelled from movement. This came as a great shock because I have known all of them very well as dedicated and loyal members of the organisation and I have been proud of my friendship with them and the fact that they are my comrades in arms. I was even more touched that they should have found themselves out of the organisation abroad because for the 6 months I spent abroad and in spite of the heavy programme I had I had moments of being homesick. I can imagine how they feel.
Both in my life outside and inside jail I have full confidence in my organisation and its leadership and my initial reaction is to support them in everything they do. This ia my attitude generally and in this particular matter. I believe that one of the reasons for the misunderstanding is that I should be declared National President of the organisation. I appreciate the sentiments of those who put forward this suggestion and I accept that it is done in a bona fide way. But those who make this demand really miss the point that has always guided us in the organisation and that is that we owe our loyalty not to any individual or group of individuals but to the organisation and it makes no difference to us who is actually at the head of the organisation as long as the machinery of the organisation, the membership, the committees at all levels, especially the National Executive is strong enough and united to ensure that the policy of the organisation is carried out. This is the essence of a good organisation concentration on policy and not on individuals.
